I don't know where April went. Sort of scary how fast the time flies by, but I'm looking forward to May. My brother and sister-in-law will be visiting from Europe for the whole Summer. I'm beyond excited to pick them up at the airport next week. Having them here calls for a fun Summer.
Now on to Month must-reads.
Question of the month: What's your best beauty tip/secret (aside from: drinking lots of water, wearing sunscreen and taking off your make-up at night)?
Besides the above mentioned, which are all SO important, nothing works as great as a good night of sleep for me. Sleep, sleep, sleep. Seems like an obvious one but when I was in my mid 20's I didn't appreciate sleep as much as I do now.
If I haven't had a full good night of sleep, no makeup or perfect hair day can remedy or hide a sleepless night. That's why I try to be in bed by 10 pm and get my needed 8-9 hours of sleep (my body will not accept anything less :) Being well rested works wonders, not only for my mind and body but for my skin as well.

great tip - I do the same, I can't function without it. I also eat a lot of fruits which I think helps, but mainly I'd say I don't wear makeup such as concealer/foundation that requires washing off at night. I have never broken out or had pimples and I think the lack of makeup products has helped with that! I use a bronzer/blush/mascara combo instead :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree, nothing can make you feel good when you don't get enough sleep. I sometimes struggle with this, because I'm a bit of an insomniac!
ReplyDeleteGood tip Lilly - I don't go to bed as early as I should - but I've read so much about how sleep is important for you (for metabolism, anti-aging and skin!)...I usually try to make up for lost sleep by napping while the kids are at school - but I know that continuous sleep is the best...will try to make more of an effort :-)
ReplyDeleteLily I agree with all the tips esp sleep - something we overlook alot.

ReplyDeletefor me, it's WALKING. walking as much as possible. parking farther away, walking my dogs, taking a lunchtime walk. i don't LOVE running - but walking always energizes me and makes me feel refreshed - i.e. more beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! These are great tips to have and I am always thankful for reminders like these on taking care of myself.

Just wanted to say I'm new to your blog and I LOVE it!! I stumbled across it last week on Pinterest and I have been hooked since! I went all the way to the beginning to start reading and I'm just now to Feb 2011, but I read it every chance I get. :) Your outfits and ideas are super cute. It's made my shopping addiction come out in full force...LOL
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work!!
Lilly, I am exactly the same way. I need my 8+ hours of sleep and there is just no substitute. Sleep is essential for beauty:-) Also, my tips include drinking plenty of water and eating lots of healthy raw food. And I love Bare Minerals to enhance that healthy glow. You always look fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to hearing about your fun summer with your sis;-) Keep us posted.
My beauty "secret" isn't really much of a secret, but I know a lot of women don't use it: toner. I'm not joking, it has made my skin so much more even and vibrant. I use the cheap stuff too, the 100% natural witchhazel Dickinson's stuff that costs about $3/bottle and lasts for months. I use it in the AM and PM and my skin looks really vibrant now!

I've heard about witchhazel and how great it is. I've never tried it myself but I do use a toner that my Esthetician makes and it has worked great so far.
DeleteSleep is so important for overall health and beauty too! Especially now that I'm older, I notice a huge difference in my appearance if I'm running low on sleep. And it ain't pretty, lol. I read somewhere that Elle McPherson used to sleep for 11 hours the night before a big photo shoot.
ReplyDeleteWow 11 hours? I totally understand why. They don't call it beauty sleep for nothing :)
DeleteI am the type of person that needs a good 7-8 hours of sleep every night too. It's so important and makes such a huge difference in how your day plays out. There is no product out there that fixes puffy eyes as well as sleep does.
ReplyDeleteOh how I can relate! My boys know Mom isn't pleasant when a) I'm hungry and b) I haven't had enough sleep!
ReplyDeleteHaha, same here...especially when I'm hungry.
Deleteooh thanks for sharing all these new reads!
ReplyDeleteLily, I can't tell you how much you have helped me feel better about myself. I'm a stay at home mom of an amazing little boy who's 13mths. I gained 55 lbs while pregnant and have lost all of it but 5 lbs. Your blog on makeup and on fashion finds have helped me regain confidence that I have needed since I have had my son. I see so many put together moms and I know I can do it too. Your blog helps me sneak in some me time when my son is taking naps! Your helping so many women who want that look. I can't thank you enough. Thank you for sharing your beauty tips.
ReplyDeleteAw, I'm so happy to hear that. Yes, you can do it. Keep it up :)
DeleteHi Lilly! I love your blog! So many are so far out of sight when it comes to everyday fashion at reasonable prices, but yours is SO real! I've recently started my own blog (as in this week!) and hope to emulate the same kind of affordability and real-ness that yours does :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love for you to check it out!
