Shopping! Why is it so hard to say no? Why can't I skip a month of shopping and buy the "must" items the following month? Where is that discipline I so desperately need?
I guess I prefer immediate gratification. I don't do well with delayed gratification. When I get what I like quickly there seems to be some happy brain activity going on. Except that "happiness" is temporary. I know that! I've known that! Does it stop me from shopping? No! Sadly, it does not!
There are SO many items in my closet that haven not seen the day-light in a looong time.
And it doesn't help that my "slight" weight gain is making it a little harder to fit into my beloved jeans and skirts...and therefore I "need" new things. Or do I? Is that just an excuse? Perhaps I should work with what I already got and can fit in...which, lets face the truth, is a lot...and it can all be found in my
Ideally, I would like to make the month of October a NO SHOPPING month. One exception: Boots!
Can I do it? Honestly, I don't know! I've done it in the past, way before this blog way born.
But one thing I do know is that I will give a serious try. For realz!

Ohhh that is such a hard thing to do! I have made the same excuse though, since I gained 5lbs in Italy. I need new jeans! Best of luck to you!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Lilly! I just went to Banana and bought two pairs of much needed jeans. But I've decided I'm going on a no shopping ban too, at least for three or four weeks. We will see how we do! Let's be strong!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. I can't say no as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Lilly, I have to mentally prepare myself to not spend any money when I go to Target to get bread or milk. Yet i somehow end up coming out with something whether it's clothing, accessories or make up. I say we make this a challenge, no clothes shopping for october except for buying 1 fall essential!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to give it a shot too!

You've gained weight? You still look as slim and perfect as ever to me!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck in October girl--stay strong! It's all about mental toughness. Which I don't have at all, lol.
xoxo
I'm going through the exact same problem!
ReplyDeleteGood luck Lilly! I did a no-spend month a couple of years ago - it was a fun challenge, because it let me see how much unneccessary spending I do (in a no-spend month you only buy groceries...that's it, no beauty products, no clothes, no eating out etc).
ReplyDeleteI love shopping - finding the perfect piece in store or online is just SO satisfying...but sometimes it's important to appreciate what I have instead of looking for the next big thing.
Keep us updated :-)
I could never do this. I think I would internally explode. I'm way too far gone into compulsive shopaholicness.

I was 'thinking' about doing this too, but I don't think I can...I am still looking for fall boots and well, I cannot give up thrifting, I am addicted! :)
ReplyDeleteShopping diets are tough- so much of the fun of shopping is the instant gratification, I know exactly what you mean. But imagine the sense of accomplishment you feel if you even manage to get through a few weeks ;) It will get you a long way, I promise!

ugh, i SO need to do this, what with christmas coming up ever so soon.
ReplyDeleteBUT when you're a stay-at-home wife, sometimes going to the store is the ONLY thing i do out of the house, the only reason to put on a cute outfit. sooo....it's really hard NOT to shop!
It's so fun --that's the hard part! Unfortunately, handing over the moola isn't quite as fun as wearing the new stuff. Having a fashion blog definitely doesn't help! I'm with you on this.
ReplyDeleteI find that listing my daily expenses helps when I'm trying to cut back on spending because the numbers are there staring me in the face.
I did this for the month of September. I last 3 weeks.... hahaha

love your blog!!
You can do it! I put myself on a shopping ban for this month and I'm almost done! I've tried for several months before this and failed miserably, but somehow telling someone else that I was on a shopping ban made me stick to it. I seriously can't believe that I'm almost done with it. I think you can do it, Lilly!
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard not to shop! Especially at the changing of the seasons because of all the new clothes in the stores! I like instant gratification too, but since I also have a closet full of clothes I have become more selective. Except when I am sad or mad, then I go crazy and shop! Thanks for stopping by, Heather
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, too, Lilly! I have no money though, so it's easier to not shop right now ;) I'm trying to lose the extra lbs. I've put on recently so I don't have to go charge up a new wardrobe... sigh.
ReplyDeleteYou can totally do it! A month will fly by before you know it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you, I have been spending like crazy these past few months. I know I should stop but I can't! There are so many lovely things out there... My husband is worried about the financial crisis and I feel so guilty spending when I should be saving... UGH!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! i know i cannot survive without shopping. I too have a problem.
ReplyDeleteGirls, thank you for your support and tips :)
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to last at lease a few weeks. For those that want to go on a shopping ban as well...girls let's do it.
I am with you!! I really really need to not shop for a bit! My goal is to NOT shop the whole month of October. It's going to be hard but I think i can do it!!
ReplyDeletei did this for the month of september. i lasted all month. but the next two months have more than made up for it. good luck! keep us posted.
